Labiaplasty (Labia Majora Reduction) Female Plastic Surgery
Sometimes how a woman “perceives” how she looks in the vaginal region can mean devastating effects on her life. It can threaten her self-esteem, reduce her sexual desire and excitement, ruin her love life, or cause vaginal discomfort. That’s why many women are now seeking cosmetic vaginal surgery to recreate sexual excitement, restore self-esteem and rejuvenate their love lives. Vaginal reconstruction is in the form of vaginoplasty (vaginal rejuvenation and tightening) and labia surgery is in the form of Labiaplasty (labia reduction and beautification). Hymenoplasty (reconstruction of the hymen) returns the ruptured hymen to a pre-sexual state. Labiaplasty and Vaginoplasty can be performed at the same time or in combination with other common Plastic and Cosmetic procedures such as Rhinoplasty, Breast Augmentation or Reduction, Abdominoplasty, or Liposculpturing.
Labiaplasty can relieve the emotional and physical discomfort associated with labia majora (outer lips) and labia minora (inner lips) conditions. The goal of the surgery is to provide a balanced, comfortable appearance of the labia area. Labia appearance issues typically result from sexual intercourse, childbirth, genetics, or aging. There may also be asymmetry between the inner and outer labia lips, which may cause discomfort.
The labia area is a sensitive issue for women. Enlarged inner or outer labia lips of the vagina may cause discomfort, embarrassment, or adversely affect sexual intimacy. Candidates may have a poorly defined labia anatomy, which can make everyday activities difficult. Close-fitting pants and bathing suits may be uncomfortable. Sporting activities may be difficult. All of these factors can be distressing. Labiaplasty can restore the contour of the labia minora or labia majora, and alleviate these distressing conditions.
Fully developed young women and adult women who are in good health are the best candidates. However, patients with certain medical conditions may not be appropriate for this treatment. The procedure does not result in perfection, so be sure to discuss your expectations with a board-certified plastic surgeon in your local area before traveling to Thailand for your female cosmetic plastic surgery.
What is Labiaplasty Surgery?
Labiaplasty is a surgical procedure that will reduce and/or reshape the labia minora - the skin that covers the female clitoris and vaginal opening. In some instances, women with large labia can experience pain during intercourse, or feel discomfort during everyday activities or when wearing tight-fitting clothing. Others may feel unattractive, or wish to enhance their sexual experiences by removing some of the skin that covers the clitoris. The purpose of a labiaplasty is to better define the inner labia. During this procedure the urethral opening can be redefined, and if necessary improvements to the vagina may be made. The problem can be caused by genetics, sexual intercourse or difficulties in childbirth.
Labia Minora (inner vaginal lips) Reduction
Many women dislike the large protuberant appearance of their labia minora. This may cause severe embarrassment with a sexual partner. The overly large labia minora can also result in constant irritation in tight pants. Surgical labial reduction can greatly improve the aesthetic appearance of the abnormally enlarged labis. Some women are born with large labia, others may develop this condition with childbirth or age.
Labia Majora (outer vaginal lips) Reduction
This common anatomical variation may be worsened by childbirth or by weight gain or loss. They may sometimes be improved by liposuction. In more severe cases, surgical reduction is necessary.
Best Candidates for Labiaplasty
Women who are either experiencing sexual dysfunction or embarrassment because their labia (labia minora) are over-sized or asymmetrical. Also women who dislike the large size or shape of their labia, which may cause inelegance or awkwardness with a sexual partner.
About Labiaplasty Surgery
During your labiaplasty consultation, your doctor will explain how long the labia reduction surgery will take, the amount of time and care necessary for a full labiaplasty recovery, and exactly when after surgery it would be safe to resume sexual intercourse. Labiaplasty takes approximately 1 - 2 hours on average.
Vaginoplasty (rejuvenation of the vagina) involves “tightening” and rebuilding of the vaginal muscles and the perineum. Childbirth, (especially multiple), aging, and genetic factors often cause the vaginal muscles to loosen, tear, and weaken. The diameter of the vagina gets bigger and there is a loss of feeling (and pleasure). Vaginoplasty returns the vagina to “pre-pregnancy” state and recreates sexual excitement and pleasure for the woman (and the man)! Some doctors use a laser for vaginoplasty and or labiaplasty surgery. You may hear varaitions of terms such as: labiaplasty or laser labiaplasty or vaginal rejuvenation and vaginoplasty or laser vaginoplasty or vaginal tightening. The difference is that some doctors are trained to use the laser for cosmetic vaginal surgery and reconstructive vaginal surgery and some use a scalpel.
Recovery After Vaginal Cosmetic Surgery
Labiaplasty is an outpatient procedure usually performed under local anesthesia. After surgery, women may experience some mild discomfort and swelling, which usually disappears completely after 1-2 weeks. The labial incisions usually heal and are rarely noticeable and will return back to work within 3 to 5 days.
